Privacy Policy

Draft — last updated September 2026. Not yet reviewed by an attorney.

This page explains what information SoCal Spearfishing collects through this site, why, and how you can control it.

There are two separate things you can give us on this site, collected for two different reasons. They are described separately below because they are not the same and are not treated as the same.

1. The email list

The signup at the foot of the home page, and the one that appears in a popup, ask for an email address and nothing else. We use it for one purpose: to tell you when more of the coast is up here — the site currently covers 27 of Southern California’s 61 protected areas. There is no schedule and no newsletter. We do not use this address to sell you anything.

2. The trip interest form

A separate page on this site asks a longer set of questions — name, email, phone, which kinds of excursion you’d go on, roughly what a day would be worth to you, and how often you’d go. That form is for a planned small-boat freedive and snorkel operation, which is a commercial venture and is being kept separate from the reference side of this site. Filling it in is entirely optional and nothing on the maps or area pages requires it.

Addresses given to the email list are not used to market trips.

What we never collect

No payment information — there is nothing to buy here. We do not sell or rent your information to third parties.

Text messages (SMS)

The trip interest form — and only that form — offers a “text me trip updates” box. If you check it and provide a phone number, you agree to receive recurring automated marketing text messages about the planned boat operation (trip announcements, signup reminders) at that number. Consent is never a condition of anything: you can use every map and area page without it, and you can submit the form with no phone number at all. The email list does not ask for a phone number and never sends texts.

Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies. Reply STOP at any time to opt out of text messages, or HELP for help. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Your choices

You can ask us to update or delete your information, or unsubscribe from emails or texts, at any time by contacting us (see below) or by replying STOP to any text message.

Where your information lives

Both are stored in a private database. Neither is publicly visible, and neither is shared with other companies for their own marketing purposes.
